Sam Dodwell Stoically Runs the Marathon
Stores Supervisor Sam Dodwell excels when it comes to golf. He has won every single Staff Golf Competition for the last three years. But running a marathon is new to Sam, and determined to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, he signed up for this year’s London Marathon.
As well as running in memory of family members who had been supported by Macmillan Cancer, Sam is determined to get fit and saw the marathon as a real incentive. “I hadn’t done a huge amount of training before the event, mainly some evening running through Grantham. So this, my first marathon, was all very new to me, but I was determined to finish it.”
Sunday 22nd April 2018 was an unseasonably warm day, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees Celsius. So this makes Sam’s effort to complete the 26.219 mile course all the more admirable. “It was certainly tough, but there was plenty of help on the route, including cooling mist showers,” said Sam.
Sam received great support from his family and friends, and of course his colleagues at Cathodic Protection Co Ltd. In total, he has raised over £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, an incredible feat given the difficult conditions.
